Important infomation from NDCS
The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) has recently received information both from Lancashire County Council as a result of
a Freedom of Information request, as well as from Local Deaf Children’s Societies about services for deaf children in the area. NDCS is particularly concerned about:
1. Plans to cut 2.7 Teacher of the Deaf posts, cuts to 2 Communication Support Worker posts as well as a 0.3 cut to deaf role model posts in
2012/13. These were revealed in a recent Freedom of Information request.
2. Lack of commitment from the council to review the current social care pathways to ensure that they are as robust as possible for deaf children and young people.
3. The level of involvement of parents in changes to services.
What are we going to do about it?
We have put together a questionnaire for parents to fill out so we can share your experience of services for deaf children to the Council. NDCS and Local Deaf Children’s Societies are meeting with the Council on the 5 July, and we want to ensure that we are able to represent your views. This questionnaire will still remain open after this meeting. More information For more information about what is going on, please check our webpage dedicated to Lancashire.
