Sign Hi Say Hi! is a group of local families with deaf children and young people living in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. We organise activities, social events, BSL classes and workshops for families, children, young people and their siblings, parents and carers.
Sign Hi Say Hi! have been successful in securing a grant from the Peoples Health Trust Active Communities Funding programme for our “Lets Get Together” project which is to enable local people to shape activities in their neighbourhood and form closer social links.
The Project Co-ordinator will lead on the delivery of the Sign Hi Say Hi offering over the next 2 years to ensure that it meets the needs of deaf families and their children/young people and enables them to forms a strong supportive community. The role needs to continue to develop ways of ensuring that they have a say in shaping the Sign Hi Say Hi offering and the opportunity to have a role in its delivery if they want to be involved. For the service to be successful it must be accessible to all deaf families and the project therefore offers an exciting opportunity to be creative in the development of access routes.
Terms of post: Fixed term contract for 2 years, part time 5 hours per week (Term Time)

The Project Coordinator will work with the Sign Hi Say Hi Committee to develop a project plan and deliver the project aims. The Sign Hi Say Hi Committee will maintain strategic direction over the 2 year project.
Reporting to: Jane Thomas, Chair, Sign Hi Say Hi
Specific duties of post:
- To project plan the development of the Sign Hi Say Hi offering in accordance with the terms of the successful project bid.
- To effectively plan and coordinate project activities.
- To support the Sign Hi Say Hi Committee to maintain a strategic overview of the project to deliver the objectives of the “Let’s Get Together”
- To provide regular reports on progress to the Sign Hi Say Hi Committee
- To monitor and evaluate existing provision against identified need to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
- To involve the deaf families, children and young people of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre in Shaping the Sign Hi Say Hi offering
- To market and promote Sign Hi Say Hi
- To arrange and participate in meetings, events and working groups for the project.
- Develop strong working relationships with key members of our partner organisations
- Develop an attractive activity programme
- Liaise with the Play Inclusion Project staff
- Ensure project expenditure is recorded accurately and report the current position
- Evaluate and monitor the success of the project.
- Provide a progress update at each Sign Hi Say Hi Committee meeting.
- Adhere to relevant policies, including equal opportunities and health and safety
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by line manager.
- To foster and develop good relationships with other local and national organisations and institutions
- This post involves work with young people under the age of 18, and the post holder is required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Willingness to undertake evening and weekend work dependent on activity sessions scheduled
- Ability to travel frequently round the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre area. Own car or access to a car essential
- Working hours will be 5 hours per week, for 41 weeks per annum incorporating a degree of flexibility. The post, which has a fixed 2 year contract, is placed on a salary of £25,000 pro rata, with access to a stakeholders’ pension.
- Sound practical experience of planning and delivering projects to meet agreed targets including the ability to manage and track projects effectively.
- Experience of undertaking effective project management & project evaluation
- Experience of managing budgets and maintaining accurate financial recording and reporting.
- Involving service users in service development
- Experience of building and maintaining good relationships with stakeholders
- Would be an advantage to be deaf aware and/or have links to the deaf community
- A highly organised, motivated individual.
