Volunteering

Can you help?

Sign Hi Say Hi runs activity sessions for deaf/HI children & deaf young people, their families, siblings, parents, carers and friends. All deaf children & young people are welcome from birth to young adults whether they choose to communicate by speech, BSL or both.

The club was started by parents from Fylde Deaf Children’s Society (FDCS) and we are linked to the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS).  Deaf children/young people meet, play sport, make crafts and take part in a variety of activities. and simply be together. It is also an opportunity for parents/carers to have a coffee & socialise with other families. Many children or young people find they are the only deaf child or young person in their school and at Sign Hi Say Hi they meet other deaf children/young people and it provides them with the opportunity to exchange experiences and make friends.

We hold activity session a 2 or 3 times a month term term, normally on a Tuesday evening with the occasional weekend activity on a Sunday at a variety of venues across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

We are deaf and hearing parents from Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre who offer informal support /information and we work with Blackpool and Lancashire Authorities to improve services for deaf children/young people.

Ideally, we would get funded for the work we do but as the club has grown so popular we need volunteers to get involved to keep it going and make a difference to the lives of families with deaf children & young people.

If you have time to help either for a few hours a month or even more, please do contact us below telling us about yourself and how you can support us.

You may have specialist skills or resources or be happy to help us in fundraising or increasing awareness across our local community. You may be able to help with the administration or be a youth project worker looking to donate 4 hours a month to a voluntary project. Or you could be studying BSL and want to volunteer as a sessional play worker.

Please do get in touch and if you would like to find out more about what we do, we can arrange to meet at Sign Hi Say Hi
